A new assistance scheme that will replace the current ACIS scheme. The new scheme will be called the Automotive Transformation Scheme (ATS) and will provide $3.4 billion to the Australian automotive industry between 2011 and 2020. An additional $79.9 million will be contributed to ACIS to smooth the transition to the ATS.
The Green Car Innovation Fund will be expanded to $1.3 billion and brought forward to 2009.
A total of $116.3 million will be provided to promote structural adjustment through mergers and consolidation in the components sector from 1 January 2009. While $20 million will be contributed from 2009-10 to help suppliers improve their capacity to integrate into complex national and global supply chains.
The reduction of tariffs to 5 per cent will go ahead as planned in 2010.
